Two Sisters | Studio City Child Photographer

August 22, 2011

I genuinely enjoy all of my sessions.  I find kids and the way they see the world incredibly fascinating.  Sometimes things just line up perfectly, and this session was one of those times.  I usually blog about a session after it happens, but this one was a surprise, so I had to keep it quiet for a few months.  It wasn’t until recently that I realized I never posted about it.  When I mentioned that things line up perfectly, I really meant it.  This session was such a delight, and to top it off their 3 year old actually kept the secret about the photo session, so mom was genuinely surprised when she received her gift 🙂
We had a wide variety at this session from pjs to fancy dresses to playing around.  I look forward to photographing these girls again in the future.  A (the older sister) and E are so different, yet very much sisters.  I adore the photo of the two of them in front of the tree.  The way little E asserts herself as the protector is priceless.
Thank you for a wonderful session, G Family!

Cypress Albums equals Archival Perfection | Los Angeles Children’s Photographer

August 18, 2010

I have admired Cypress Albums for a long time.  I love them for so many different reasons….

  • They are a local business.
  • They reuse or donate as much of their scraps of cloth and paper as one could reuse or donate.  Yet, they still try to reduce their waste further.
  • They have the most gorgeous colors for their fabrics (and ribbon too)!
  • They only use the most archival quality materials.
  • Their handmade albums are made by individuals who are skilled in the art of bookmaking.
  • They are awesome 🙂
  • They are super nice too!

I finally had them make a sample 10 x 10 flush-mounted albums for me.  If you want to include a folio with your album, we can make that happen 🙂  I also have some photographs of one of their gorgeous orange blossom folios.  I cannot wait to share these items with clients during my next order session.  It is one thing to see the photographs, but it is certainly something else to hold them.  They truly are works of art!

Here are some of those images…

Little J 9 Months Later | Los Angeles Child Photographer

August 17, 2010

I first met this little guy when he was 3 months old.  I know babies grow fast, but I am in awe of quickly he morphed into an almost toddler.  He may even be walking by the time I post this 🙂  Little J has such a huge personality for such a little dude.  He is talkin’ up quite a storm too!

Here are a few of my favorites from the day…

NAPCP Retreat – Napa, CA | Los Angeles, Children’s Photographer

July 1, 2010

A couple of weeks ago, I went up to Napa for a very special event.  The organization I belong to National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) had their first Annual Retreat.  NAPCP was created by the incredibly talented Alice Park and her husband Kyu.  It is a wonderful resource for parents as well as photographers.  They have a wonderful blog with articles ranging from how to dress for your session to recipes.

I was looking forward to the retreat, but it was above and beyond anything I accepted.  I met so many lovely people during the two days that we were there.  I had the chance to listen to both Tamara Lackey and Dane Sanders speak, in addition to Lisa Thomas, Brandy Anderson, Jane Johnson, and Andrea Halsey.  There was just the right amount of information to take in, which was perfect, because it also allowed for us to have some fun too!  Alice and Kyu set up a couple of beautiful wine tastings, and at the end of the first night, there were 15 local models who took part in a perfectly lit shooting clinic up at the vineyard next to our hotel.

Alice & Kyu, Thank you so much for everything!  The amount of time, thought, and detail that you put in to this retreat came through in every aspect of the retreat.  I am very glad to have you and NAPCP in my life 🙂

Before I show some photographs, I just wanted to say thank you to Whitney for making the long drive to and from Napa with me!  Without you and Big Sky Cafe, I am not sure I would have made it 😉  A big thank you to Whitney and Sara Harris for all your hard work that went into helping this retreat happen!

And seriously, if  you ever go to San Luis Obispo, I highly recommend stopping at Big Sky Cafe.  Their food is fantastic!

First Clients, Second Session | Los Angeles Child Photographer

May 30, 2010

When I photographed this family in March of 2009 (First Portrait Session), they were my first clients that I did not previously know.  I had a lovely time photographing there girls then, and I had even more fun photographing them this time.  This time around their mom helped me come up with what is now my most favorite location.  Perfect light, lots of texture, such a fun spot to shoot in.

I love the last shot of the post.  I was just about ready to walk to my car when I saw the girls playing on a step.   I am very happy I took my camera back out to capture that shot.  So sweet!

Here are a couple of favorites….

Tade at 9 months | Los Angeles Child Photographer

February 27, 2010

It is very hard to believe that Tade is almost 9 months old. It feels as though he was just born. I had a lovely afternoon with everyone.

When I arrived Tade was sound asleep with his both arms under his head (see below). And as always, Hazel assisted me on the shoot. She did a wonderful job keeping her younger brother’s attention 🙂

Enjoy the sneak peek!

Original Kids Display at Jumping Jellyfish! | Los Angeles Child Photographer

February 22, 2010

Today the display went up over at Jumping Jellyfish!  They are located at the fabulous ONE COLORADO in Old Town Pasadena @ 34 Hugus Allley, Pasadena, CA, 91103.  If you are in Pasadena, please stop by for a visit.  It is a great store, and there are lots of great books and clothing!  Below are some photographs of the display, along with some photographs of the store.  Ann, the owner, has so many adorable items.  It was impossible for me to walk out of the door without snapping a few shots!

I hope you all are having a happy Monday!
