All in all a great session.  There was racing, swinging, mud eating, fountain splashing, and fountain bathing.  🙂

HeArts & Crafts with Little Junebugs | Pasadena Child Photographer

August 3, 2012

Last month, Little Junebugs and Original Kids by Tanya Alexis decided they needed to do a project together.  Two weeks later, we launched our first HeArts & Crafts Event.  The HeArts & Crafts Event will occur once a month on a Saturday or Sunday.  You can find out more details and future HeArts & Crafts dates on the Little Junebugs website under heArts.  I am thrilled to by working with Courtney & little junebugs on heArts & crafts.  I look forward to sharing more with you after the next one. 🙂

here is how it works:
once a month little junebugs will host a three hour family event.
for $30 per child (discounts for families and groups are available!)
They give you a 12×12 canvas and access to all the hearts,
glitter paint, paper and anything you might desire from their studio.
There will be snacks and drinks and plenty of fun,
and I will capture it all.
Once you or your child’s work is done,
I will shoot a portrait of the artist and the artwork in the perfect little studio
(built by Courtney, co-owner little junebugs).
20% of the $30 you spend for the session will be donated to
an AMAZING program that allows children that are living with cancer
to develop their creative voice through the art of photography.
here is a link to the blog Courtney wrote about the project recently…
please check out their website (www.littlejunebugs.com)
to see some of the test photos we shot this week on the new “heArts” page.

Information about Pablove Shutterbugs:

Pablove Shutterbugs is the signature program of The Pablove Foundation. In an educational setting, the 8-week program allows children living with cancer to express and develop their creative voices through the art of photography. Each child receives hands-on experience through a mix of one-on-one weekly instruction and group classes. The students also receive their own camera equipment, which is theirs to keep upon completion of the program. Once a year we celebrate the students’ photographic achievements and raise awareness of childhood cancer with a Pablove Shutterbugs group show at an art gallery. We also offer photography workshops and a week long photography summer camp for children living with cancer.

The Pablove Shutterbugs program currently reaches children in Los Angeles and New York City.

Inspiration | Los Angeles Child Photographer

July 11, 2012

It is always fun to find inspiration.  Sometimes inspiration can be found by watching a friend go through their own creative process.  It can also be as simple as noticing  bright colors or beautiful lines.  Or in this particular case….through a rented lens.  I never would have thought to use such a wide lens for my work, but after seeing it in action, while assisting a friend on Sunday, I decided to give it a go.

The last image is from the fantastically crafty Little Junebugs in Pasadena.  They have lots of arts & craft classes as well as a perfect selection of books and gifts.  I am very excited to be cooking up some fun projects with them!!

Here are the results from the inspirational lens….

A Father and His Family | Los Angeles Child Photographer

July 2, 2012

Being allowed to witness a family interact with each other is one of the true joys of my work as a photographer.  Saturday’s session reminded that I am very fortunate to do what I do.  The B Family made my job super easy from the get-go.  There is a whole lot of love within this family.  I am honored to have been asked to capture it.

The very last photograph was a last minute suggestion as I was wrapping up.  I am very happy his dad asked me to take that photograph and even happier that the little man agreed to do it!

Here are a few of my favorites from Saturday…

Whole Lot of Love | Los Angeles Child Photographer

June 26, 2012

Toddlers observe everything as though they are viewing something for the first time.  Photographing toddlers is a similar experience (for the photographer).  It doesn’t matter how great you are or what your vision may be for the shoot, you have to throw all of that to the wind – just watch and observe as they discover, play, and interact with those around them.  It is a fascinating age, somewhere between baby and child.  They still have their adorable baby pudginess, but at times, depending on the way they stand or act, you can see the child they are growing into.

When I walked into my session on Sunday, I knew all I would do was observe.  Watching this loving family interact together was an absolute treat.  Little R’s parents welcomed me into their home with open arms.  And because of that, I was able to easily capture the love and joy that exists within this family.

Below are a few of my favorites from the shoot…

Happy Father's Day | Los Angeles Child Photographer

June 17, 2012

I am one of the lucky ones.  My father has always been there for me, and he is a large reason I am who I am.  He is the reason I always push my chair in with my meals, I sit up straight,  I have a very strong hand shake, and most importantly, he is the reason why I hold such a strong respect for myself as well as others.  My father always nutured me as a photographer.  When I was thirteen, I received my first SLR, a Minolta X700, and my first flash, a Sunpak (that I still use today).  I vividly remember sitting on the floor of my parent’s bedroom next to the huge maroon leather chair as I opened up my camera and supplies.

Throughout high school, my father and I would take a trip during Spring Break.  After each trip I would hand him between 10 – 15 rolls to develop and he never questioned why I took so many pictures.  Well he may have questioned it, but he always got everything processed for me.  🙂

My father has always supported me in all of my endeavors, even those he never fully understood.

I am a very lucky daughter.

Happy Father’s Day!
